Boko Haram and ISWAP Regrouping with International Backing!
In a chilling revelation that has sent shockwaves across Nigeria, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has sounded the alarm that Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists are regrouping in massive numbers, gaining dangerous international support, and setting up fresh strongholds in critical areas of the state.
Speaking passionately on Friday in Maiduguri, Governor Zulum made the startling disclosure during a high-level security meeting attended by Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other senior military commanders. His words paint a grim picture of a conflict far from over, despite years of military efforts.
According to Zulum, the notorious terrorist groups are thriving unchecked in the Tumbus water areas of Lake Chad and the Mandara Hills within Sambisa Forest, exploiting the lack of sustained military presence to rebuild, regroup, and strengthen their operations.
“What we are facing now is heartbreaking,” Zulum declared. “Our military conducts operations, reclaims these areas, and then disengages. But before long, Boko Haram and ISWAP members crawl back, reclaim the territory, and tighten their grip on the region.”
In an even more alarming detail, Zulum revealed that Tumbus on Lake Chad has never been fully cleared since the insurgency began. He warned that it has now become a safe haven and breeding ground for the terrorists, offering them money, food, and vital resources — all under the military’s nose.
He stressed the urgent need for Nigeria’s armed forces to launch decisive, sustained military operations not just on land but also in the waterways of Lake Chad to finally root out these insurgents, whose ability to regroup poses an enormous risk to national security.
“Without proper action, the terrorists operating in the Northwest, North Central, and Northeast will continue to regroup through the Sahel and Tumbus areas. Our porous borders are the lifeline of their operations,” Zulum warned gravely.
Even more disturbing, Zulum revealed that Boko Haram and ISWAP are now enjoying international support, raising fears that Nigeria’s insurgency could escalate to a new, deadlier level if not immediately addressed.
This shocking revelation comes on the heels of recent warnings by security analyst Bulama Bukarti, a Senior Fellow at the Extremism Policy Unit of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, who warned that Boko Haram’s influence is rapidly expanding on social media platforms like TikTok.
In yet another devastating blow to Nigeria’s security apparatus, Senator Ali Ndume of the Borno South District recently disclosed that Boko Haram attacks led to the deaths of about 100 soldiers and 280 civilians within just six months — a staggering loss that highlights the growing might of the terrorist organizations.
